This was a really great time - I wish some of you could have made it out. One of the bigger crowds that I've seen lately, and a lot of fun.
Racing the Slash on this "monster" sized 8th scale track was interesting. Spent a lot of time trying to decide what jumps to take and which ones to roll, since only a few of the doubles were within reach. I ran pretty consistant all day and qualified 7th, finished 5th in the A Main. It wasn't nearly as fun as CRC or Grove for the Slash but it was a learning experience, I saw some really good drivers pushing their trucks hard.
The E-Revo was a bit of headache all day long. I got there early to get some time in with it, since I was really more interested in it for the large track. Arrived around 8am (yawn) and the track was still pretty wet from some rain they had yesterday. It was STICKY clay and I wasn't about to go in. I was concerned about my batteries since the main would be 20 minutes and I had not yet run it that long in one shot. As I waited for the track to dry up I decided to change the pinion and hopefully get some more runtime, and when I pulled the motor I noticed that my servo wire had been melted by the heatsink

Quick patch repair there, smaller pinion in, get on the track. I ran about 10 minutes and was pretty happy with how it felt. Wanted more time to stretch out the batteries but I was worried about getting them charged back in time for the first heat.
First heat went great, was running pretty mellow just trying to lay down some laps without breaking anythng and get used to the pace of the other monster trucks. Dennis Allison was standing next to me on the stand and he was setting the early TQ pace, and at one point I was running behind him for about 2 laps. I wasn't trying to pass him since I wanted to take it easy and get used to everything, but I felt I had the power to get around him in some of the wider areas. Then I lost a wheel

Got back to the pit and took care of that, noticed that I broke the fan on the ESC.. that's not good. It definitely runs hot and I didn't expect to push 20 minutes without it. Not that it mattered.. when I charged the batteries up they took nearly 2400 mAh each to fill, there was no way I was going to get 20 minutes out of it. I decided I would just push as hard as I could to see what it could do, and worry about larger batteries and better gearing next time.
Second heat I ran behind Dennis again in second place from start to finish. He had pulled ahead early but I was making time up on him in the last two minutes. I qualified third behind Dennis and Moose's times from first round. In the main I again ran behind Dennis in second place for nearly seven minutes before my truck shut down from thermal protection. Dang esc fan really messed me up there, I think I could have stuck in long enough to run up front at least a little before the batteries dumped. Anyway, my time was good enough to finish fifth there also, so I was happy enough with that.
The awards were really nice, more than I expected. Next event is Sept 13 at The Grove so let's see some people out there!
