Project in mind... decisions decisions

Okay, I had a lot of plans before the new year. One was buying a major hop up for the Slash or an 1/18. Niether hit my interest in the end and I appologize to those who may have had expected deals to go through. Some of the extra money that I had got over Christmas payed a good portion of the important family things. But hey, the wife found no porblem in me starting a project as long as the spending was kept at a minimume. Well, other than this site, I frequintly visit RCNitrotalk.com site to read questions and what not to get a good mind set on this money sucking hobby. :
Any ways, one of the admin members on there had started a project right after I had slightly commited myself into a project too. Mine was the Traxxas BackSlash( a modded Slash into a 2x4 buggy that gets major air). The other guy, Sweetdiesil, had started and finished a Hyper 7 converted to Brushless. Needless to say, it's a freaking beast!

and

Needless to say, I am now changing the direction (again) on my project even though I bought the Slash Chassi new for $13.00. My question is this, should I go with the full out Monster Mamba Max 2200kv combo like his or would it be a good one with a cheaper set up? I have seen many CC stuff on ebay for good prices even after shipping compaired to buying it from Towerhobbies or the like.
What ya'll think?

I personally love the CC stuff. I've had a lot fo good luck with it, I'm figuring they about have all the bugs worked out of the MMM and I'm considering one for my E-Maxx. Are you planning on doing one in a 1/8th buggy? Or something giant in a Slash?

Well, I am personaly one of those who usually resist someone elses critisizem but, Sweetdiesel pretty much summed up what has been in the back of my mind about the BackSlash. I my self and others on the site highly respect this guys opinion on electrics. Its performance on the track just wasn't that impressive and he claims he has seen better jumps than the backslash though jumps don't have to be majorly important.
To answer your question, I am thinking about doing the same thing he did or close to it. I do have a Slash Chassi so maybe I could put that in the spare bin or make another Slash fromt the ground up
. Sweetdiesels Hyper 7 conversion really made me raise a few brows(just check out those links I posted). I have always like buggys. When I bought my (piece of $#*T) acme buggy, it turned out to be a 1/10 which I thought all buggys that raced were. I was wrong and ripped off by a brand name that Wilee Cyotee couldn't even succeed with
. I really would like to try what he did. The only thing that sucks right now is the price of MMM 2200kv. Yeah, it has to be high though, it's fresh on the market and has really been selling well from what I understand. CC seems to be the strongest BL system on the market.
Well, now that I have kinda explained what my agenda is, I just won a Hyper 7 Roller on ebay for $76. Just doesn't have reciever or engin but has spare parts as well.
Here is the whole link on his project that Sweetdiesel did. He gives as much detail to what proceedures he did to make it work. I think the guy is an accountant, so I am sure he has some nak for producing plenty of money to feed this hobby lol.

His build looks really cool. You could always use a regular Mamba Max and an XL can like I use in my Revo. If you run 14v or less, you don't even have to use a BEC, if you decide you want more than 14v, simply remove the power lead from the MM rx plug and wire in a BEC. You should be able to get into a set up like that around $200.

Yeah, I may try that Cajun. Thanks for the suggestion. If I go that rout I come out cheaper both for the combo and the batteries, right?

Hey, quick question. MM 4600kv, is it higher torq? Also, one of the things that really gets me confused about BL is, the lower the number the higher the torq and the higher the number, the higher the top end, right? If that is the case, why is the new MMM 2200kv with 2x3s LiPO getting an E-Savage up to 60 Freakin MPH? Just can't get a total grasp on the turn thingy.
Alright, so it's not a quick question lol. I am looking at one combo on ebay that is a 4600kv and it is selling from the site, higher than the 5700kv. Is that because of the torq?

What would be the part number for that combo, motor or set up?

Yep, that's right, the lower the number the higher the torq, the higher the number the more top end (if voltage is the same in both cases). That number is the rating of the motor based on the number of revolutions per kv of battery power. So a 4600kv motor will turn 4600 times for every kv passed through it. The 4600 is probably selling for a higher number because it more of an all around set up vs. the higher top end less torq set up.
I'm running a Mamba Max and a Fiego 9XL (2200kv) XL can in my Revo on a 4s lipo. The motor esc set up is going to be a little cheaper, but the batts will be the same, you'll run the same voltage through both basically.

Use a dremel cutoff wheel and make a slot in them that you can get a flat screwdriver in.

Yeah I may try this first for sure. I spoke with the guy that did his mod and he said to heat them and use a dremel and cut the top of the flat heads off. Sense there is a groove that they are set in I may risk shaving the body some. So I think I'll try your Idea first guys. But I may try heating them some to losten any locktight. He suggested that and it may not be a bad idea. My question would be this. Could I use the end of an old but reliable electric solder gun?

Also, something a bit unexpected but you know how it is when you buy used stuff off ebay, when I spin the center dif/gear system, the front wheels spin but the rear barely do. When I spin the rear wheels with my hadn the axel that leads to the center doesn't. Is this normal or is the rear diff screwed?

A soldering gun/iron might be good for that, it would concentrate the heat right on the head of the screw. Use the Dremel first and cut your slot, then heat it and give it a try. Make sure you have a big enough screwdriver to fit the slot without any blade slop, makes it much easier.
