Well , it finally happened. After 9.5 gallons, my Revo has finally succumbed to defeat. It wasnt even the motor that died out, but a possible bent chassis. I pulled the motor, and didnt see any broken mounts, so the spur gears being chewed up would then point towards me needing a new chassis. I will know more in a few days (I hope), and will probably make a thread on the rebuild of it (if anyone is interested in such a thing....lol). I grabbed a few shots of how bad the motor looks (external, havent taken and opened it yet), and will get them up soon.

I'd be interested in seeing the rebuild documented in a thread. I'll also be interested in seeing how that motor looks on the inside, I can't believe the abuse that thing has taken.

Ok, till I am told to STFU (lol) or we find a spot to put this up (Mods and hop ups maybe??) I will keep it going here. I tore the motor down tonite (will have pics up in the am), and was amazed at what I saw!!!!!!  Remember guys, this mill had 9 gallons of no after run or any real care other than "hmmmm, something broke, quick fix to run it more" (was a rebuild after not even 1/2 gallon, blown do to self noobness). So that makes the block at 9.5 gallons, and the piston, sleeve, and conrod at 9.  Pics will help to tell this story, but let me tell ya, I wont hesitate to treat any and or all my nitro models this way in the future. I may have had a lucky motor, but I did everything you arent supposed to even consider with this thing. K&N filter, no after run, tears in the couplers for the exhaust (causes big rich running) leaks in the fuel line (lean), even torn filter boots (letting who knows what into the thing), and it looks like a 1 gallon motor inside!!!! Rear bearing could use a change, but other than that, I am extremely impressed. I cant get into the office right now,but will have the pics up asap in the AM. I again think the pics will tell the story , WAYYYYYYYY better than I can type it.

Wow, that's amazing. I can't wait to see the pics. I think this can stay here too, as a memorial to that motor. Cheesy It was definitely a "Bash-O-Holic".

If you want, I can post the pics of interest seperatetly (what I think would be of interest) with captions or descriptions. It all depends on how much you guys want to hear (read) and how lazy I am.....lol   Well without further delays, heres the link:      http://s258.photobucket.com/albums/hh250/icepick832/Revo%20Resurrection/?start=all

Yeah, post up the pics and captions. I'd be interested to hear what you think about everything. That thing was remarkably clean for what it went through.

First is the overall shot before any work being done. Excited, but dreading the work that lies ahead.

Wow, look at all the grime in there. I hope none of that made it into the motor. I can see a tear in the filter neck too, uhoh.

If any one picture, ever says how little you need to adjust your LSN, once set by the "punch test" verses the "pinch test", this is it.

EZ start removed, and so far, I aint skeered of what I see. surprising how no orange "ooze" came out. that little orange spot up top, is cause I sealed the motor right away.

A bit closer of a shot just after a quick wipe.

OK, I couldnt wait any longer. I needed to see the piston. Hmmmmmm, looks normal.

Starter shaft, made of steel, with no after run oil, ever, before being wiped off.

And after just a quick wipe down. The "gunk" in the previous pic was just surface debris. So far I am impressed, but the crank shaft will tell the horror story of no ARO.

Hey!!!! Wait a second here!!! No dramatic music, no fire falling from the sky, no shrieks or terror!!!! Again, not wiped off, just removed.

This shot, to me, also speaks volumes. The bearing are rumored to be the most susceptible to no ARO, but they appear to: 1: all be there, and 2: are still shiny. hmmmmm, is this some sort of miracle?? have the nitro gods smiled upon me. Nope. Just I think that by shutting the motor down, by plugging the stinger, loads it up with fuel. The fuel has oil in it, so with little to no air getting inside the motor, it cant rust as easily. I could be wrong and its all just a luck thing, but I cant say that. There are to many things that make this look like a well maintained motor to just call it luck.

lol, no offense taken, especially where I got 9 gallons with no maintenance at all of any kind.

You know, I love electric, but keep migrating back to nitro...it's so much more challenging to tune and make everything work just right. E-Anything is easy to make run like a scalded dog.

I didnt get any shots of me removing the front or rear end of the truck, but it was much easier than I thought it would be. As far as the chassis goes, it doesnt appear bent at all, and the motor mount appears good. I am going to replace both (can be found on the bay for about 20 bucks shipped for both) to eliminate either as a culprit. While I have it all apart, I will be putting on the RPM arms, Lunsford hinge pins, and maybe get a couple other parts. Probably rebuild the diffs too. Mostly, pretty it up, but wont be going all "bling bling". Stock parts have done great up to this point, so why change. As far as actual broken parts, just the clutch, even though it showed no signs of being bad. I am strongly considering dropping the mach 427 in it while I am at it, just need to get a BB kit.  I will try to get the pics of everything torn down (even though I dont think it will be as exciting as the motor pics.....lol).

Well I will say, I have always wanted a Jato... when it came to Nitro's. But when you have an Electric with kids it's less time consuming for them.  Tongue

I definitely understand the kids thing, mine are grown and gone, so it's a little easier for me to find some time. After I built my E-Revo, I went straight back to nitro and have had at least one since. My Savage being my favorite so far. Don't get me wrong, I love my electrics, when I come in after work and want to run for an hour before dark I grab a batt and hit the door, but I'm a gear head and those tiny ass two stroke nitro motors are just plain cool. I didn't have great luck with the Traxxas motors, but the HPI stuff has been a lot easier to tune and maintain.

Oh and by the way, you don't HAVE to run a Jato on nitro....mine doesn't. Wink

Great thread Bill, this does defy all RC motor logic though! WOW!

I saw this on the Traxxas thing...it's cool that this wound up being a fairly local guy. Interesting...
I've got a lucky 3.3 in my Maxx. I can't kill the thing, but then again, I take pretty good care of it. Even though I ported and polished it, and it loves to run up around 350 degrees, it's a freakin' beast. I've put almost 9 gallons to it, and it's still strong.
Any plans for the old block? Making a trophy out of it?
